Hey Betty, I wore a Kilt myself when I was a young boy staying with family in Scotland. Not sure what my uncle and cousins had under their kilts but I wore silk knickers donated to the cause by my girl cousin as they would keep me warmer they said in the cold northern winds. It was the occasion of her brothers wedding and I was 7 years old at the time. He wore a full regimental jacket and kilt as did my uncle but my outfit was a white blouse, navy cardigan similar to a blazer, pleated girls kilt and the white knee socks and black lace on slippers and the knickers all of which were my girl cousins. I had to look the part as I was called upon to carry the ring but we never knew this until we arrived in Scotland the night before the wedding. I visited my aunt and uncle and girl cousin when I was 19 and over from Canada and it was the first time I had seen them since leaving the UK. in 1957. Both she and I had grown up by then and she was going to be married the following year. Those silk knickers left a lasting impression on me and I was wearing my sisters most often after that. I was hoping to see if I could "borrow" some of hers while visiting but that didn't happen so later on I bought my own while in Edinburgh. Would have loved a kilt also but they were hand made to order and I didn't have enough time so several pairs of knickers were my only purchase. My older cousin lives in Edinburgh still with his wife and two kids but I never hear from him and my aunt and uncle are long gone. My girl cousin and I chat often on facebook and emails as she is living in Australia with her family now. Funny enough when we were talking about photo's I had found in my mothers things, she asked if there was one of me in her kilt at her brothers wedding. When I said no she said she was sure there was one in her mothers album and if she found it she would send a copy to me. She remembers I looked very cute and loved wearing it so much I did not want to give it back when we left. Something to look forward to I guess if she finds it.
