Title: an old story of mine
Post by: patricialacey on November 19, 2016, 04:36:53 PM
hi Betty, I was going through some old files of mine & found a story I posted on your site before I got sick, and I was curious as to whether it was still there or had fallen off the bottom because of the amount of time that had passed.
I was amazed to find still here!                                       http://buffalobetties.net/Stories/index.php?topic=668.0
then I noticed that it was credited to a member named Parisser. My first thought was "I've been robbed!" but upon scrolling to the bottom of the page I found thanks from your good self & a guest by the name of sissykisses90. I can only assume that it had indeed dropped of the page due to the time factor & sissykisses90 was "looking for a story". So I believe I owe Parisser a vote of thanks for saving the story and to sissykisses90 for remembering it.
However there was a further chapter I hadn't posted.
Is it still possible to tack it on even though its on the recent inactive stories page?

I usually thank people for bringing back & rescuing an old story. It was 2 years ago, so I don't remember if it was actually requested, or who originally posted it in 2006. From the wording on the top of the story one would assume it was their story, if it wasn't, they should have included the original author's name in the post.

People often change their username, or drop out, then re-join under another name, so it does make it difficult to keep track of who is who. A quick check of ISPs shows she's from 75-100 miles east of me & you are in the UK, so I guess that proves you are not the same person that reposted it.

We don't allow people to post other people's stories unless they have permission from the author or rights owner of the story, or unless it was a story that was at Betty's but got lost or fell off over time. Even so, they should always include the original author's name.

I'll try to find it in the archives to see what name it was posted under originally to figure out what's going on.

We don't allow people adding to stories without the originator's permission either, so if you are the author, you can add to it anytime you want. It is not an inactive story anymore if you add to it, so then it gets moved to the active section.

I got confirmation. I found the story in the web archives from Aug 2006. The text of the story itself is gone, but the title of the story, with your name on it is still there.

I will make the corrections to the credit.

Parisser has been a member for many years. She may not have been intending to be malicious or to steal a story, but simply copied & pasted a story that was originally here & lost, but didn't copy the author name from the side of the post. Yes, it may have been requested too, I don't remember.

I do encourage people who saved stories from us that were lost by our old cheap servers in the old days to repost them. So this was likely to be just another story rescue, rather than anything sneaky.
