Does anyone know anything about the video "Girl Or Boy" that aired on Discovery Kids some time before Nov. 2005? I Have:
Story by Sarah Lai, Teleplay by Stephen Hall, Director: Gerald Lenton-Young.
Trevor Holloway plays Brian, a high school freshman(?), who on his first day bumps into a big older boy who takes out after him, presumably to beat him up. Brian hides in the Theater Dept's costume room and comes out pretending to be a girl...and kind of gets stuck....
I found an old video (in ".rm" format) that I didn't know I had, and am trying to find out more about it. All Google brought up was something in Japanese, with the above information in English, and no links.

Hi,
I'm pretty sure it's an episode from the Incredible Story Studio series. I know I have snappy's from the episode but they're not identified in a way that I can find them quickly. One is of Brian dressed as Cleopatra as I remember. This was discussed on the board a long time ago.

I might have gotten the original file from Betty's somehow. Google search results were disappointing:
title (nothing relevant), actors' names (nothing relevant), Story writer (nothing), Teleplay by (nothing), Director's name (see image).

Yeah. That's all I got too. I think we had a clip of it here. Don't know where it is now, or if I still have it somewhere. Blurry old short clips tend to get deleted more than full or good quality videos.

Incredible Story Studio was released for Discovery Kids cable, renamed Incredible Story Studios for the cable TV airings after the turn of the century. The original episode (S01E09) & show as it aired as a Canadian TV show, aired in October 1997. Note that the episode could have been renamed & given a different episode number as they may have switched the order of the episodes.
It also aired in Latin America as Mi guión en Discovery Kids (My Script on Discovery Kids). DVDs were published and distributed by Digiview Productions.

Wow! Great information. A thousand thanks to both of you, andyg0404 and Betty!

I found in the same directory a short clip from "Judging Amy" (Season 2, Episode 9; May 2001) about a transgendered 8 year old boy. I looked up the full episode on Youtube. What I found fascinating was how attitudes have changed in the 16/17 years since this video was created. The dilemma (Social Services claiming abuse by parents raising as a girl a child born a boy who strongly self-identifies as a girl) might not even come up in today's world. Also, Judge Amy's solution -- for the child to "pretend to be a boy at school" -- would probably be unacceptable today. Youtube video at:

I found a video over 2 hours long of many Incredible Story studio episodes, in poor VHS quality (probably originally recorded at the slowest possible speed). The Girl or Boy episode was not included in the mix, but I did see a couple other episodes where boys were crossdressed... mostly the chubby kid who is featured on a lot of the episodes. Unfortunately, Girl or Boy does not seem to be freely available anywhere, even underground... or it could have been renamed, & given a different episode number by the time it aired on Discovery.

Hi,
I located the images on my computer so here are a few Snappy's from the show.

Ah. Now I remember it! I knew I had seen at least a clip of the story somewhere long ago, but couldn't recall any image of it.

Here is the clip from the discovery show. The channel has a few other interesting one including two scary clips from the movie second serve.

Thank you! I couldn't find it anywhere.
No wonder I missed it, it's only yucky 144p & blurry (VHS is 240p). It was probably shrunk down to 144p RM to stream back in the 1990s dialup days. I think I didn't move off of dialup until about 2001 or 2002.
I tried to download, enhance, & clean it up, but there wasn't really much to work with here because is was such poor quality & extremely low resolution. Still, it came out a little bit better, but not by much. I suggest not watching it in full screen or watch it on small screens... poor quality video actually looks a lot better when it's smaller.

Gosh, I forgot about the movie Second Serve. I still have that laying around somewhere. Probably on a data DVD disk rather than a hard drive.

That may be where I got my original ".rm" file which, judging from the "rm" in the title, was the format of the original upload. I downloaded the current .mp4 file and did a side-by-side comparison using VLC: the ".rm" file is noticeably sharper, if only slightly so.

Yeah, back in the late 90s we only had bandwidth hungry crappy mpg, RM, & WMV internet video formats. MPG is still your standard DVD format... 3.7-4.7gb of space for a 2 hour movie at 480p. RM & WMV were considered much better for the smaller file size. But because most were still on dialup at the time, they'd compress the hell out of them, & shrink them to 200-240p. 144p was rare except for 90's porn from underground sites off private or personal servers.
Up until just a few years ago, RM's RMVP (Real Media - Variable Bitrate) was still very popular throughout Asia for the best picture in the smallest possible file size. But it never caught on in the USA when we were still using inferior DIVX & XVID in AVI. It wasn't until recent advancements in H264 for mp4 (version 2) that it became better than RMVB. My first seasons of The Big Bang Theory are still in RMVB format (.rm).
I used to be so amazed to squeeze a 20 minute episode down to 175mb & still have it look good in RMVB. But now I could make it look the same in H264 mp4 in about 60mb of space.
I found my copy of the 1986 TV movie "Second Serve". Clearly a dowloaded version with Spanish subtitles. It looks like it was originally a high speed (SP) VHS tape.
I made a clip of the early crossdressing scenes.

6mb, 3 minutes.
I'll post the entire movie in our private viewing area at a later date. I'd like to see if I can get a better version first.
