Title: Dressing boys over 100 years ago!
Post by: sissybaby34 on January 13, 2020, 06:03:16 PM
This image popped up on a twitter feed that I follow. Its an original colour "Autochrome" which was probably the first time colour photos appeared. I have posted this before, but worth a re-post I think.

Hey sissybaby34, this picture reminds me of my time in sailor suits as a very young boy in England. The one I remember most was white with navy blue piping and I wore white sandals and ankle socks. Mostly back in the 50's I wore sandals like the ones you see Princes William and Harry wearing in their younger photo's. My sisters friend had a parasol but I never played with it or even got to look close at it as she was not one to share anything.

I don't know anything about the Autochrome process but in the 19th and early 20th Centuries, people were discouraged from smiling, partly because the longer exposures required by the photographic procedures back then would cause a blur if one twitched at the wrong moment.  So maybe he's not so unhappy after all, just looking "serious."
