Another mouse got in the house yesterday. The cats let this one get away while tossing it around & playing with it. It ran behind the stove. The space for the gas line has just enough of a gap for it to fit through. I think that's how it got in. After being banged around by 2 animals 100 times bigger than it, that have sharp claws & teeth, if mice are as smart as they say they are, I don't think that one will come back.
With so many garbage cans & dumpsters in the area, I think it was attracted inside for warmth rather than for food because of the cold weather. I haven't seen the outdoor cats outside in the back yards in almost a month. There was a big fat old orange one that used to come around several time a day. So I guess the mice could wander more. I hope the outdoor cats are OK, & are staying warm inside somewhere & didn't freeze to death.
The last mouse we had was just before Christmas. I heard the cats making their usual noise, like they usually do playing with each other. Suddenly it gets quiet. I look & see them just sitting there in the middle of the floor staring down at a dead mouse. No blood or anything. I suspect they beat & tossed it to death. So I think this time they were trying to be careful not to break their new toy, & it got away. Good thing that they had their shots & it's not flea season. Hopefully if it gets a little warmer, the outdoor cats will be around again, & keep those little critters away.
