On Dec. 26 in the UK on BBC1 there's a TV special, that's an adaptation of the book, The Boy in the Dress. 6:55pm UK time. I don't see it listed for the USA BBC channel (they'll be running Dr. Who marathons), but I'm sure if you check your underground internet video streams (1:55pm Eastern USA time), you'll see it. Remind me late Christmas night or early on the 26th, & I'll post who might be streaming it. Sometimes with these underground streams, you won't know who's streaming it until after the movie started.
If you're willing to wait 1-5 days, I'm sure it'll be on the torrents by then. Pirate proxy, Proxy Bay, Pirate.me, & other true PB torrent affiliates are down. There a copy of Proxy Bay running out of the Ukraine (a .UA domain), but I'm afraid of anything coming out of the Ukraine because the country is headquarters for the Russian Mobsters. A substitute for the PB torrent sites & their affiliates, is http://isohunt.to/ They even have a poor copy of the bay running there too at https://oldpiratebay.org/. Not as good as old PB but it works. There's also http://kickass.so/ They're not as good as they used to be, but if you can't find anything in one place, it's another place to try.
I use free uTorrent software from 2011 to download & save the torrents. Newer versions of uTorrent & bitTorrent software contain crapware, & garbage you don't need. So google for an older version. 2010-2012 versions seem to work fine, & are better than new versions. There's a bit of a learning curve to set up old or new versions right. Setting it up wrong can screw up, or slow down your downloads, or can get you arrested for illegally sharing copyrighted material you didn't even know you were sharing. Use PeerBlock too, to keep the nosy authorities out of your files.

Thanks Betty. In searching to see if I could find some more pix I came across this short film with a rather neat twist at the end.

LOL.
What a time we live in.
I used to have to crossdress in hiding. I was to be sent to a state detention home for wayward & crazy boys just for being suspected of being gay, even though I was well behaved with high grades at school. If you were gay or a crossdressing kid back then, you had to go away, be locked up, or treated for it, so I ran away underage.
But I wonder how much different I might be today if things were more tolerant about being gay or crossdressing like today. Would I have become a full-time crossdresser or get a sex change if I was encouraged?
I kinda like being a crossdressing guy, who likes to dress up in pretty or frilly, youthful things. Would I have been as involved with science, astronomy, electronics, technology, or even know how to rebuild my vehicle's engine had I been allowed to be more in touch with my feminine side? Back in those days, those were mostly guy things.
One the other hand, maybe I would have become a better painter, musician, dancer, or a ballerina, if I had been allowed to be gay or a crossdresser.

Hi,
The BBC website says the show will be available shortly after broadcast and that broadcast will be on Boxing day, Friday December 26th. As to whether that means we can all see it or if there's a charge, I can't say. But here's the link to check in on.

BBC never streams to visitors or ISPs from outside the UK. You'll get "not available" or a "forbidden" message. Because it's not on BBCA either (the Americas BBC feed), it won't be available on their site either.
You can visit BBC1 through a UK proxy in an effort to fool them, but the bandwidth lost through most of those will make the stream stutter, skip, or lock up. Besides, even the most trusted proxies are used by bad people & things, so they're always at risk of getting infected or infecting you. Some proxies are even set up by the media & law enforcement to catch people illegally using or sharing media & other suspicious activities. Proxies & clouds advertise the advantage of more privacy & security, but in reality, most of them put your privacy & security at more a risk.
Far better just to look for an underground stream feeding it as it's broadcast, or just get the torrent of it a day or more after it's broadcast. Most of the reputable & common underground streamers, & torrents are less risky than surfing most websites, including a few sissy & ABDL sites.
Beware of the 5 hour difference between UK time & eastern USA time if you want to catch a stream as it's broadcast in the UK... even more if you live further west. Also expect all reliable streams that don't stutter or drop out to be only around 240p (about the quality of VHS tape) to 360p (about the quality of a average S-VCD).
-
For those who live outside of the UK who want to catch the movie as it broadcasted, these are your best bets to to see it streaming. The video or a listing for it may not show up until a couple minutes after BBC1 started broadcasting the movie. It may not be listed or listed properly at all. You may have to click on a most likely link, or several "movies" or "TV" links to see if it's the one you wanted.
http://veetle.com/index.php/listing/index/entertainment
May not work with some FF & Pale Moon settings, runs fine with Chrome & Opera. Do not download & install their "player" or any weird, specialized software & player from any streaming or video site. You don't need any special, unique, software or player to view any safe video from any trusted site. The trusted ones stream in flashplayer, HTML5, or some other common streaming version of .flv or .mp4 files. So far, the only thing I can see the veetle player is for is to insert ads in the video. So decline the player install, or click "remind later" & click on the video to play it or any proper streaming site. If the video refuses to play without a sites "software" or "player", find another site.
Use your favorite ad-block browser settings or add-on, or you'll find free video sites too cluttered with ads, or your video constantly interrupted by annoying ads.
http://vaughnlive.tv/
This is where most of the streamers from JustinTV moved to. Click on "Browse", then "Misc" to find the video if it's there. Click around because the listing may not be correct or obvious.
http://www.ustream.tv/explore/entertainment
Another spot some of the JustinTV streamers have moved to. May not work with all FF & Pale Moon settings. Works fine in Chrome & Opera.
http://www.oleoletv.bz/station/21/
The listing may not be as stated. Click on stuff like "movies" or movie titles, & see if it's what you want, because the title or listing may be wrong, or the streamer may have decided to run something else.

http://www.atdhe24.net/live_streams/live/2013-jan-06/bbc-one-31.html
This is for sports streams but if you click on a feed that is the channel you want, or is similar, you'll find they might be streaming the channel even when there is no sports running on the channel. This is a favorite for watching blacked out games not available in your area, but have picked up many UK & other TV shows on them too. I see BBC1 there often under another European channel name.
https://streamup.com/#entertainment
Another favorite of streaming content from TV stations or user's private collections.
http://viooz.ac/
They usually don't stream direct from TV stations, but do occasionally, or sometimes I can find stuff here just hours after it was broadcast. Once movies are available for pay-per-view, or on DVDs you can find many of them here.
Videos that are jittery, lock up, or drop out may be due to your ISP throttling down connections to media sites & services. Even though you pay for the bandwidth & speed, they want the source you connect to, to pay extra to send media to you. If they don't pay extra, they throttle down the connection to make it hard to use. It won't matter if you select a lower bandwidth stream, because they'll throttle that too if they don't pay extra ransom money to your ISP.
The problem with that, is there are thousands of ISPs in the world. Should a media site pay all of them extra to deliver the speed & bandwidth you're already paying them for? If you do a speed test, it looks like you're getting plenty, because they don't throttle speed tests, or for a minute or 2 of high speed internet when you first connect to a site.
To get around this problem, chrome will route some content through google isps, to eliminate the of the middleman throttling, but it may not prevent your own ISP from throttling it. If you use turbo boost in opera it will route you through opera proxies. That may fool some ISPs so they don't know you're getting content from a site that didn't pay their bandwidth & speed ransom money. Almost ALL ISPs are currently throttling your speed from media providers that don't pay them ransom money to some extent.
This is why I stay with the servers we currently have for Betty's. They pay the ransom fees to most of the most popular ISPs in the world so we don't get throttled down by your ISP. I don't approve, & it's costly, but I can't have our visitors turned down to dialup speeds even though they're paying for broadband.
If we didn't have large stories & pictures, it wouldn't be a problem. But would you want to wait for a minute or get a "try again" message every time you clicked on a story or gallery because your ISP is throttling us?
-
Didn't try all the links. I'm getting the show on http://www.atdhe24.net/live_streams/live/2013-jan-06/bbc-one-31.html with my Pale Moon browser, which is Firefox with all the useless resource hungry frills, & fluff removed, so it should work with other browsers too.
Sigh, expecting company soon, so won't be able to watch all of it. Sure hope the torrents have it later. Unfortunately it's not a popular topic for torrents.
-
Worked in chrome too. Did not work in Opera. In opera the site demanded I install java, update flash, & install some weird player. I've run fine for almost a year with no java in my computer, so have no need or wish to corrupt my machines with it now. Do not download or install specialized or weird players to play media, it's almost always malware. HTML5, Flash, & VLC player should play anything legitimate out there.
BTW don't confuse Java & javascript. They may sound the same but are 2 entirely different things. You need javascript to run most websites. Think of it as an extension of ordinary HTML. But there's only a few apps & sites that still need Java for anything. The last roadblock I had by not having Java on my machines was a few insignificant webcam feeds wouldn't work, that I can easily live without. Java is a big security hole.
-
Missed most of the movie because I had some company over. I see there's already torrents of it though.
https://kickass.so/the-boy-in-the-dress-hdtv-x264-tastetv-ettv-t10007296.html
For those unfamiliar with torrents, you just don't download & play them. You have software gather bits & pieces of it from many users, or in bits from a single user, & your torrent software assembles it back into it's original form. So you need a torrent software like bittorent, or uTorrent. An version of uTorrent from over a couple years ago is my favorite.
Much modern software has to much useless fluff & bloat compared to some older versions. Many software creators feel everybody should have a 3ghz or higher quad processor, 16gb of RAM, & a couple terabyte sized fast or solid state drives in their computer. So little consideration is given to any efficiency, streamlining, or waste. They tend to throw everything they can in them rather than only what you really need.
It's nice to have a car that can drive through a lake like a boat, or fly through the air like a plane, that has a toilet, sink, fridge, TV, bed, & bar in back. But it's not very practical, efficient, or compact, if you just need a car to get from point A to point B. Most of us don't buy limos or RVs because they're not practical for everyday use. Software, OS, & browser designers should learn that very simple lesson someday.

Hi Betty,
I confess to being totally inept at stuff like this but I downloaded a bitorrent program and then downloaded the show from kick ass and it doesn't open, it just gave me a bunch of tabs saying it wasn't available. Clearly I'm doing something wrong but I have no idea what it is.
Thanks
Andy G.
-
It wouldn't open to download, or the completed download wouldn't open? The download itself won't open until it's 100% completed. I can't say much about bitorrent because I haven't tried them in years, but remember headaches with them so stayed with an old version of utorrent.
You click on "download torrent" or the magnet link... the icon that looks like a horseshoe shaped magnet. Make sure your OS, antivirus, or firewall have permission to run the program & download the file. Those permissions should have been set automatically when you installed the program, but if you have customized some of your computer settings, they may not have automatically set properly. Some may have to shut off their antivirus only during the install of the software. Some antivirus is prudish & may try to block torrent software & activity, other antivirus just protect your computer, & let you decide what you want to do with it.
You may get a message that say's "open with" when you click on the file, then you select to open with your torrent software. In utorrent, the software starts automatically. Other software you may have to click on the software to start it running first, before you click on the file to download.
When I got the show, it showed 3 people sharing had 100% of the show, & about 1/2 dozen more that had 40-75% of the show that were sharing what bits they had of it so far. I think it took around 12-15 minutes to completely download.
Right now I'm sharing it to others at about 75kbs... a clear indication of many others who are sharing do not have 100% of it yet. Please keep your torrent program & the download online for a while after it's downloaded so you can share & others can get the show too.
BTW, it's not a real movie after all, just a TV special. It's only about 1hr long.
Be sure to install peerblock so the BBC & others can't track your downloading or sharing habits. But you are far less likely to ever get into trouble for downloading media freely available off the air, cable, or satellite. They primarily like to go after people sharing popular new copyrighted music, & movies. So they won't be looking for who's downloading this, A Christmas Story, an episode of I Dream of Jeanie, or your favorite old classical Bach album.
-
From the link I provided, you want the file at the top of the page. If you scroll down you'll see other stuff, including a link to another version available. It only has 1 seeder, so you don't want that one as long as the version above has more seeders.
I'm using an older utorrent build 3.1.3 because it works better than the rest & flawlessly. Your security will be provided by your antivirus, firewall, & common sense, not the version of your torrent software. Like, don't download rar, zip, & exe files unless you know exactly what you're getting & what you're doing. Video files are almost never in wmv, qt, & mov formats anymore so are almost always infected, unless you're downloading a real old file (some of my YCDTOTV episodes & very old porn are in .wma, .mov, or .rm).
Video will almost always be in h264 versions of mp4, mkv, flv, or avi. Some files from asia to save on bandwidth & space may be in RM or rmvb formats. Files that end in .dvx or .divx are fake. Real DIVX files end in .avi. If you try to play a file or stream, & you get a message to download or install special codex or a player to get it to play, don't do it! HTML5, flash, & VLC player is all you need to play almost anything legitimate out there. But there are a few live webcams that still need Java to run, that I can live without. Over 1 year with no Java & it's security risks on any computer at home, & I'm doing fine (Java is not javascript & is totally unrelated).
It may all sound dangerous, but all the torrent risks are out in the open & obvious, so getting a torrent is usually safer than surfing the web. You can get infected visiting a site with no warning or signs to indicate there might be a problem until after you caught something nasty. Common sense will tell you that a file ending in .rar, .zip, or .exe is not a real video or music file.
A good torrent lnk site also has a link to comments about the file. The comments will tell you the quality of the file or if it's safe. I downloaded lots of exe files anyway because I like free software, or some of the ones I like are not available anymore. But out of the thousands of torrents I've downloaded over the years I've never caught anything. Twice ever my antivirus refused to allow a download that it said was bad many years ago, when I was desperately trying to find a very rare file (I accidentally didn't notice it was a rar file). Also, last year a video offered a URL to download a codec to play a video, so I deleted the video.
-
5 out of 10 people currently downloading this file are using uTorrent 3.4.2 (I guess I'm one of the few happier with the old free 3.1.3 or know were to find it), 1 is using VUSE, 3 are using bitorrent, & 1 is using an odd Chinese torrent client. I find that it's typical for people there to be using utorrent the most.
The complaints about old utorrent versions are that it has no special features. Features? I don't need any stupid features. Just easily & simply download or share the damn file for Christ sake & I'll be happy. I can never understand why software developers feel the need to throw everything but the kitchen sink into their software, with all sorts of fancy or bright flashy things. And I don't want my interface to look like a children's Romper Room coloring book, or a telephone either.
I don't need it to convert files to other formats, there's other free software that does it better. I don't need it to protect me from malware, because their protection is almost useless. I have my own firewall & antivirus that do it better. I don't need it to play the files, I already have a better player. Torrent software should be designed to just get the torrents fast & easy. We don't need it to do 10 other things half-assed instead. Just make it do what it was designed to well & forget the fluff, glitter, & garbage we don't need.
-
Thanks Betty, I think I already brought stuff onto my computer that's not great, I'm running Avast now to clean it up and I think I'll just wait until the show is available through normal channels. I've always been leery of torrents and I see I'm not technically savvy enough to do this without endangering my computer.
Andy G.
-
It was on the normal channels, just not available outside the UK except through underground streams. You might have to wait till next Christmas before it airs again... if it ever does. Believe me there's a lot of UK programming that never gets here unless you go underground to get it.
Let me guess. You downloaded torrent software other than from the site of the company who actually makes the software. Or when you installed it, you clicked on default or regular install, so it installed adware or toolbars too. Just go to control panel, programs, & just delete the programs you didn't want. The free new versions of utorrent has ads. You want the old versions or the pay version to get rid of ad support. But why pay when the old versions are just as good or better than the pay version?
I'm using uTorrent 3.1.3 Build 27498, from June 26, 2012 & it works excellent in XP, vista, W7, W8, & W8.1.
Yeah, I know I just implied that it's best to get the software from the creator's website, but for the old version you want to go here, http://www.oldapps.com/utorrent.php and here, http://www.oldapps.com/utorrent.php?old_utorrent=7871
Pay very close attention to the install when you install this or any software. More often than not it will ask you to install a toolbar or browser helper you don't really need. Those apps pay to be there so you get the software free. But they are no good or can even be very bad. So decline installing anything but just the software you wanted. Be careful, the wording may make it seem like you are just approving of the software you wanted. Read it very carefully, it's worded to fool you into agreeing to install crap ware. If you use the regular & default install, it might install all the crap automatically too. Whenever it's an option, always choose custom install, & carefully read what you select. They're worded to even fool the best used car salesman to trick you into clicking & installing stuff you don't want.
It's free software. To get something or a lot for free it should be worth your time to be cautious, & read carefully so you know what you're clicking for.
I consider torrents & most good torrent software to be much safer than surfing the web. But torrents should not be confused with other p2p fileshare systems out there like frostwire, emule, & edonkey. There are no peer comments, ratings, & control on those types of systems, so are much more risky.
-
Hi Betty,
I was pretty careful in the downloads, always doing the custom and declining the dreck. The biggest problem for me was I didn't know what I was doing. I had no idea about the magnet but once you pointed me to that I clicked on it and it appears that I now have the show. It's currently seeding, something I had to Google to find out what it meant. I'm going to watch the show, assuming it lets me, but I think I'm going to uninstall the torrent stuff afterwards as it makes me uneasy. Thanks for all your help and technical know how.

Just watched it and it was charming.
Thanks for all your help.

For those who are still having a hard time getting it, I made a highly compressed phone version. Looks good on a small screen, but it's not HD for a big screen. Still, it is watchable if it's your only source of the film. Those with severe bandwidth or speed restrictions, my compressed version is only 103mb in file size for a 1 hour movie. I did the compression myself because it comes out better than u-tube's compression. I wanted to squeeze at least VHS quality at about a 100mb file size.
With downloadhelper you can download it from there if you want. There's also a 141p version there that's only 36mb in size for those with really limited internet connections, or want to store it on a small phone or tablet with limited space. To download it with downloadhelper, you'd click on the mobile version. The 3gp format is even compatible with small old flip phones that have camera & video capabilities. On a dialup connection you can download the whole hour of the 141p version in about 13 minutes.
The 103mb version is the mp4 at 240p... standard VHS tape quality.
Enjoy!
EDITED: I removed this video & it's link because I made a better compressed version of it at more than twice the file size. See my more recent post about the video for the link to the new version.
Although I've had a google account since we ran google/adsense ads here well over a decade ago, This is my first U-Tube post ever.
For 100mb per hour of video, it don't look bad as long as you don't sit with your nose right up to a big screen. If I sit 5 feet or more from the 26" TV, it looks fine enough. To save on size though, it's only 12fps, so the motion isn't very smooth. I've seen 300-800mb per hour videos on u-tube look much worse. Most people who can't torrent can't because of bandwidth, speed, or other restrictions on their internet connection... or don't know how, or afraid to. If they use a public connection, torrents & underground streams, or large files may not even be an option.
If this low bandwidth solution is useful for your connections, or fears, or just to get a small file size copy fast for a phone or small tablet through downloadhelper, let me know, & I will do some more of this type of thing. The 141p 3gp mobile version can even be easily & quickly downloaded on a dialup connection. I notice we have a lot of visitors visiting through a wireless connection with phones & tablets. Most wireless services aren't very fast (sometimes only slightly faster than a dialup connection during peak times), & they put severe limits/caps on the daily or monthly bandwidth they can use. So compressing to the limits is important so everybody can enjoy Betty's on any connection, phone, tablet, or any old machine.
Don't forget to click on "like" when you view it at u-tube.

It was a nice little film but I felt it was a little bit unrealistic.
If the coolest and prettiest girl in school wanted me to go to her house and encouraged me to dress me up I don't think I'd have bothered with football again!
Even so, it was a happy story with a positive ending. I wonder what he's doing now??
-
I only had permission to temporarily run a low quality version of the video for 30 days. Unfortunately I needed separate permission to run it with the background music in the game scene, which the copyright owners of the song refused to give. I managed to remove the song, but keep the dialog in the scene, to keep everyone happy about it.
But the 30 days I was able to run it have expired weeks ago. Last week (Feb 19th) I just got a notice that the permissions to use the video has expired, so I had to remove it. Usually for stuff like this, the take down reminder is sent out when it becomes available in the USA, or a DVD or mp4 of it goes on sale, rather than when the 30 days have expired. So that's a good sign that the video will be available on BBCA in the USA, or for sale as a DVD or downloadable form soon.
-
I don't see any news of this being aired again or in the USA, & no news of it going on sale. It would be a shame if they sit on this to be aired only once a year in the UK, or never air it again. I see it got good reviews, so why would the BBC just sit on it? Still, it was nice of them to allow me to post a low-def version of it for 30 days, & not actually want it shut down for 7 weeks. But the owners of the song in the film, "I Want to Break Free" were total pigs about it.
If this song is a problem in the distribution of the film, I had successfully removed the song while still preserving the dialog. I could have easily dubbed in a Royalty-Free music track in it's place on the 720p-1080p version of the film if necessary. Maybe people should write the BBC that they would like to see the film in the USA, or love to buy a download of it.
Anywho, I see it is still available on the torrents if you missed it. Much less seeders than before, so it may take about an hour to download. I may try to re-seed it if there seems to be a demand for it.
Beware there is a version over a GB in size of the film in the torrents. The 473mb version looks exactly the same so don't waste your time with the oversized version. It's only a 1 hour movie. It only takes 600-700mb of file sizes in mp4 or MKV formats for every hour of video for a perfect copy of a 1080p blu-ray video. Excellent but not perfect blu-ray copies in mp4 or MKV formats can be had at 350-450mb per hour of video. People with bloated file sizes for these videos are using poor conversion techniques, crappy software, or simply don't know what they're doing.
And "cam" versions of films that look no better (or worse) than old VHS tape NEVER have to be more than 300mb per hour in file size. If the quality isn't in the original, recording or converting it to a larger file size & bitrate is just a waste of time & bandwidth. With ISP throttling, data caps, & slow speeds in rural or remote areas, it makes no sense to unnecessarily bloat file sizes. It's like all those stupid people who take 128kbs music, & re-code it to 320kbs thinking it will make it better. No, you still have a 128kbs quality song, except now it takes as much space, bandwidth, & resources as 320kbs audio.
In most cases with our background mixes, the songs that sound the worst were because the low-quality royalty-free original song sounded no better. They are highly compressed for use only as background music, but recording them at a higher bitrate would have only made no difference with the songs that had the poorest quality to start with. I see torrents of current TV shows. These network TV shows were broadcast with only 90-190kbs AAC audio at 30fps video. Why do the torrent seeders convert them to 1150kbs audio at 120fps when that quality wasn't there in the first place? It's not gonna make the video & audio any better.
I see the same 20 minute sitcoms at over a GB in file size in torrents, that are nothing more than exact copies of the original 125-250mb torrent down the list. If it was broadcast over the air or through the cable or recorded on your DVR in a file size no larger than 250mb, converting it to an over a GB file size isn't gonna make it better, but all the fools are downloading the identical copy in the larger file size thinking it is anyway.
Anywho the film's torrent is still out there. I will continue to seed for a while it if I see people downloading it. Please seed it for a while if you liked it too. If I'm the only one seeding it on my slow DSL, it will take 112 minutes to download. My uploading speed isn't that good. Spread the word around about it so others download & seed it too.

I'm using uTorrent 3.1.3 Build 27498, from June 26, 2012 for my torrent downloads. It works excellent in XP, vista, W7, W8, & W8.1.
I know I say that it's best to get the software from the creator's website, but for the old version you want to go here, http://www.oldapps.com/utorrent.php and here, http://www.oldapps.com/utorrent.php?old_utorrent=7871
You have to pay for ad-free new versions of utorrent. The free older versions are essentially the same ad-free versions. Refuse any updates for it, or shut off all updates for it. Your own anti-virus & firewall will be your protection, not your torrent client. Use peerblock whenever downloading or sharing torrents to block authorities, & governments from seeing what you download & share. Allow it to update (about once a week). http://www.peerblock.com/
Pay very close attention when you install any software.
In most good free software, if you accidentally installed something else you didn't want, it's easily removed in your programs add/remove menu. Whenever I install any software from anywhere, I always check the menu anyway to be sure they didn't slip something by me. Familiarize yourself with it so you don't remove something crucial that's actually supposed to be there. When in doubt, google it to find out what it is in there.
I consider torrents & most good torrent software to be much safer than surfing the web. But torrents should not be confused with other p2p fileshare systems out there like frostwire, emule, & edonkey. There are no peer comments, ratings, & control on those types of systems, so are much more risky.

I had thought nobody else was interested in getting a torrent of the movie, because I saw no uploads of the movie from my file. So I was gonna shut down my torrent client this morning. Got sidetracked trying to deal with server problems at stories (they're working on it). When I get back to my primary PC, to shut down uTorrent, I see it's uploading the file at 63-79kbs. So I'll leave it on & running a while longer so they can get it faster.
I don't usually leave uTorrent on to share stuff. Usually it's only on when I'm downloading, but I'm not leaching. Anything in it to share is there while I'm downloading stuff. After I download, if I see someone is still downloading something I share, I'll leave it on until they're done. Don't you hate people who cut you off in the middle of a long download? It's extra annoying when it gets to 90-99% completed, & just stops before it's finished.
Usually when I'm sharing stuff, it's royalty-free stuff, like unsigned bands or some software I made. It's just large files, so it's the easiest way to transfer them over long distances without using up expensive servers or resources... especially when you want more than 1 person to get them. Then when 2 people share the same file, the download speed doubles. Instead of sending them the large file from my computer or a server, I just send them the torrent link. The more people who share it, the faster it downloads.
Speaking of torrents. I just discovered the last half of Season 2, & all of Season 3 of "Lost in Space" is missing from a hard drive. I originally transferred it from a very old 250mb usb drive that was wearing out. I guess the transfer from the worn drive didn't go through properly. It's shows the missing episodes titles, but when I click on them, it shows there's nothing there. So I only have about half the series. Gotta find replacements. I may have to find the entire series just to replace the missing ones
-
Found the entire series of Lost In Space to replace my missing episodes. Not quite as clear as my lost episodes, but good enough. My lost ones looked as good as the newest DVD versions, because they were recorded in Super-VHS, which was almost DVD quality. At least I didn't have to edit out any commercials this time, for the missing episodes.

Cool. It's a shame this film was not officially aired in America except through underground sources & links from places like us, & most of America never heard of the book.
No new trend.
There's always been guys & boys wanting to dress up or look like a girl, & a mother or sister somewhere wanting to dress one up. The difference is that these days, at least in some communities, a boy or guy can dress up without getting harassed much or beaten up, & they take pictures to put on the news or internet now.
And with modern phones, & other portable devices with cameras, more people are able to take a picture of it more often. Years ago people only brought a camera with them for special occasions, & then had to pay to send the pictures to be developed. Now many people carry something in their pocket that can instantly take a picture, that can be posted publicly world wide.

Hi Betty,
What I generally do when I can't right click on a picture is just do a screen capture then paste it into Word, then save it as a JPEG. Seems to work pretty well.
Thanks
Andy G
-
Usually for captures, I just press Ctrl, Alt, & Print (print screen) which saves it to MS Paint. From paint, I save as jpg to any folder I want. But for video captures I have VLC set up with a capture button I moved to next to the pause button, that automatically saves it as jpg to a preset folder, I set up for them earlier (I call it VLC caps).
If picture is flash-embedded, or right-click disabled, I right click somewhere outside the image or the flash frame, & select "view page info". From there I select media, scroll through the list to the image from the page I wanted to save, click on it, then click on save.
The bad thing about screen captures, is you're not getting a pixel by pixel duplicate of the full sized image, but a resized version of what the site, your browser, & display are set to show. If you can somehow get to save the image directly, you're getting an exact copy of it rather than a resized or processed version of it. Also with a screen capture, you're stuck with everything else in the screen unless you go through additional steps to crop out everything else but the image.
-
HI Betty,
Yes I do have to crop the images. Next time I'll try the Paint method.
Thanks for everything.
Andy G.
-
If you use paint to capture it, you'll still have to crop it. I should mention that right clicking outside the frame, & clicking on "view info" the get to view & save the media or pix works best with no fussing around with Firefox & Pale Moon browsers (Pale Moon is firefox with the useless stuff, fluff, & clutter removed, but still has all the security & protection of FF). There's no reason not to have more than one browser on your computer. They don't run in the background when closed, so use absolutely no resources when you're not using them.
Although it's not recommended to actually run 2 different browsers, & surf on them at the same time, it is possible as long as you have enough computer resources to run them both.

Hey Andy/Betty and all,
Irfanview is an excellent free image tool. I use it for cropping and then save as, allows numerous options for saving in various qualities ....
-
Hi Ace,
I've been using IRFanview for some time, as you say, it's quick and easy. I had some problems saving the last batch of pictures on Chrome which is the browser I generally use. I had successfully used Betty's suggestion about page info previously but this time it just didn't work. I moved the URL to Internet Explorer and I was able to save it with no problem. Too bad IE has become such a lousy browser.
Andy G.
-
I use other software (including my own) for cropping, touching up, color fixing, white balance, sharpening, & air brushing. Then I use irfanview to resize, compress, or filter image noise/distortion. I may re-sharpen with irfanview if the noise filters or compression dulled things too much.
I've always processed my pix that way, so I didn't even know irfanview can crop images. I could be saving a stage of the process on pix that don't need fixing if I knew irfanview could crop images.
It's not the browsers that suck, it's that web pages these days suck. They want to load everything but the kitchen sink on a page, but don't want you to access or save a portion of it independently from the rest. It takes 180-250mb of ram & 20-60 cookies or cookie updates just to load yahoo's front page. Is all of that really necessary to display the page? Of course not. But the web designers on computers with massive quad cores, $250 graphics cards, & 16gb of RAM assume everybody visiting a page has a computer just like theirs or should, so they won't streamline their programming, & cut the fat out of their pages because they can't see the problem. And of course, just the opposite of Betty's they don't want you to save anything on the page for yourself.
And here we make every byte count. You can listen to a 40 minute mix, while viewing a page of 60 pictures, & you won't use 10% of the computer & bandwidth resources you'd need to visit a yahoo or facebook page. You only need 1 cookie for a Betty page to work, not 20-60.
Pale Moon browser, like firefox, is customizable, except Pale Moon is more streamlined & efficient because they cut the fat & fluff out of it. Customizable means you can make it cheat, & do what you want it to instead of what the page or browser wants to.

Betty, you and Steve Gibson of Gibson Research are probably the last bastions of "small is beautiful." Steve takes it to the extreme: he programs in assembly language. And, unfortunately for "small is beautiful," he has picked up a reputation as a bit of a "nut job."
Sadly, as you point out, small and efficient seem to be losing out these days. I used to do most of my browsing with javascript disabled, because I disliked the idea of people running programs on my computer without my explicit knowledge and consent, but it's been years since I've been able to do that because even the simplest pages are loaded with javascript these days. Too bad, really.
-
One nice thing about Irfan View is their plugins for "lossless jpeg rotation" and "lossless jpeg crop." It's nice to be able to recompress and/or crop an image, but it's also great to be able to crop or rotate an image knowing that the result (unlike a regular crop) has not "lost" information relative to the original jpeg -- especially if you intend to further manipulate it later.
-
Betty, the crop with Irfanview is really great - and simple.
Once you open the image with irfanview, click (say) on the top left of the area you want to crop, whilst holding down the left button of the mouse, drag to the area you want, you will then see a rectangular outline (which can be re-sized prior to cropping).
When you have the area you need, just go to top menu bar -> edit -> crop selection or ctrl+y for shortcut.
Happy cropping.
-
How about that. It works just like it does in other image software. Except in other software you click "crop" first, then drag the outline of the crop, then click "done". That's probably how I missed it. The "crop" tab is blanked out until after you draw the outline to crop it. Just the opposite of most software.
