Title: Storage Bin containers
Post by: Angela M... on August 14, 2015, 09:33:27 PM
Hey Andy you might be interested in the other storage bin I opened as it contained a set of Children's Encyclopedia from 1957 that my parents brought from England as well as some old newspapers from various major events. Royal Weddings, Funerals and some other events. I am not sure what they all are as I didn't unpack the bin but it will be fun to find out when I have some alone time.

Hi Angela,

I love the old newspapers, reading about current events of the day from the perspective of many years later adds a new understanding. It's kind of like reading a book in which you know the ending except in this case it doesn't spoil it, it adds to it.

I especially get a kick out of reading the newspapers from the late 50's, early 60's because it was my childhood and I get to read about the movies and Broadway plays I attended, as well as the baseball players who were my favorites. I tried to always bring an old paper with me when I visited my ancient Aunt so we could reminisce.

Have fun with them.

Andy G.

Hey Andy,
I remember when you would post about reading to your Aunt and I looked forward to hearing what other news she was delighted to hear. I often did the same with my 90 year old mother as her eyesight was getting bad. Before that happened I would bring old movies for us to watch including one in which she stared back in England in the late 40's. She was quite surprised it was even available on DVD. I'm sure you will be missing those times with your aunt as I do with mom. I am looking forward to discovering what news these papers will reveal. I did see one paper with the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Diana headlines. I am hoping for one with the Kennedy Assassination but we moved a few times after that so I am not sure if my parents would save all that stuff as mom was always cleaning house. I lost my beloved Steiff teddy bear I brought from England during one of mom's purges along with a few tin toys from the forties that were in good condition. I took care of everything I had as a child because we didn't get much for birthdays or Christmas.
