Some kids have all the luck.
If I would have been caught putting on a tutu or tights I would have been beaten so hard it would have left some serious bruises, probably a few scars, then grounded, & forced to do hard labor for a year. Damn, in those days we used to get beat & grounded for 3-12 months just for making noise, and if you tried to get away or cry too much or too loud, you just got more, & additional months or years of grounding.
I wasn't a bad kid, I was on the honor role every year at school (that means at least a 90 out of 100 average school grade). From the 1960s & earlier, that was considered perfectly normal & typical behavior for parents. Under today's modern laws, 90% of the parents of the old days would have been put in jail & the kids taken away for how they treated their kids.
By the time the beatings got to be several times a week, & I was grounded until 40, I knew it was time to run away from home. They even were planning on sending my to a state-run detention center for teens (where everyone got raped) or nut house because they suspected I was gay, so there was no good reason to stick around. It started a chain reaction. Within 8 months all my older brothers left home too.
How times have changed. These day's some parents let their boys dress up, & even let them dance so they could film it.
