I've spent days saving & moving stories to a new web server, & dealing with all the bugs & glitches associated with moving an entire big site to a new server. A new server is almost never 100% compatible for us, as-is. As with most sites, some things have to be done to make it work right.
It's damn handy with all these years of experience, that I actually know what I'm doing, & was able to get it done right in not too long a time, without accidentally wrecking the site.
I've evolved away from the point of sitting back waiting weeks or a month for a web server to fix their shyt, while begging daily on the phone or in emails to please fix their system, or spend hours every day working around THEIR problems. I pay them WAY too much money to have to wait weeks or a month for them to straighten out their messes.
Now days, I can just spend a few days to just yank the entire site... any site, & put it somewhere else. This is because in modern times, I make lots of back-ups of a site at several locations (at home & on the servers)... with extra copies. If some data is lost in 1 copy, there's a good chance the data is good on at least 1 other copy. I am no longer tied to a server because it's such a huge undertaking to move, & the very large risks of losing something or everything by moving it. Yeah it was still a big pain in the butt & a lot of work to move stories to a new server, but easier than it used to be, with a lot less risks of wrecking the entire site.
The old stories server was failing, stalling, & slowing down every day for a month. I was spending hours every day just limiting traffic, & keeping the site stripped down to the barebones to lighten the load on the server, so it would keep functioning, or function just a little bit faster.
So I've got rid of that headache temporarily by moving it onto a new server. If they ever fix the original server, I'll have to move stories back there. The old server is still paid for, until around the middle of the month. I pay our server bills monthly, so this month we actually have FOUR web servers! If they don't fix the old server soon, we'll keep stories on its current new server permanently as long as it still works well. If someday they start to fail for weeks on end too, I'll take my business to another server & move Stories again.
I will no longer tolerate poor service. 6 months of good service don't mean shyt if I got to put up with 3-10 weeks of poor service twice a year. A good web server should spend days to fix their problems, not weeks or months.
So at least for now, things are finally almost back to normal, & so I could spend some time on other projects.
I got some more cool pictures for you. I've included some more sissy art & cartoons in this set.
Enjoy!
