Actually the web archive site is independently owned & operated by universities, Amazon, & Alexia. However we do archive some old stuff too. But rather than carry & post everything that was made in the past 20 years, we just repost the older stuff on demand. Even the archive sites have dropped everything from the 1990s... Which is odd for an archive service. You'd think it would be more important for an archive site to save stuff from the 1990s (from the beginnings of the internet), than something from just a few months or years ago. The archives of 1990s sites was quite an interesting collection of stuff for them to just dump without warning to save space & costs.

I'm sure many would have paid to see or download some of those 1990s sites rather than see it all deleted forever.

Authors are always welcome to repost stuff that's no longer here. Just check to make sure it's really not here. We get a lot of requests for stories that are actually still here. We did try to keep the most of the popular stuff up, or have several sources of it to be sure it's archived.

Welcome back, Mary Beth! I was so excited to see you again I had an accident. My new avatar will show you how my mother handled THAT situation. You're back among friends and we're so happy to have you with us.

Welcome back Mary Beth, great to have you back on the board. Over the years I've seen your work pop up in all sorts of places, unattributed of course, so your memory will live forever. Now we have the original as well as the memory. Very glad that you are well and able to join us.

where have you been for some considerable times

Hi Samantha,

Depression is an odd thing and begins slowly without major symptoms.  Cancer - twice, a mild stroke then copd, mingled with a couple of family members from hell left me with very little to fight with.  Suffice to say I sank into a very dark hole awhile back, and only now have found myself coming out of it.  Being human can suck at times, but remarkably I've found my connections on the Internet, specifically here, very uplifting.  Always have.  I love Betty's Pub and Betty and for a lot more reason now.  Was thankful to find this place the first time and now once again.

Hugs

If it was me, I'd get an attorney, to sue anybody who tried to take my computers, stuff, hardware, software, access, & fun away... even if it was family. What gives them the right? Your "hobbies", connections, friends, dreams, & lots of work were on that stuff. Even if you were sick & they tried to help, I don't see how that gives them the right to take away your stuff, or pass their judgement on you to give them the right.

Taking or selling a computer & access these days is like taking away your personal belongings & telephone.

Surely selling off all that stuff wouldn't have amounted to much to cover expenses. From my experience in used computers & electronics, selling that stuff used probably wouldn't cover a month's worth of groceries. Used computer stuff is cheap. Of course, I guess it depends on where they shop. I've known people who blew close to $500 on a used computer setup, when they could have got the same thing used from a reputable store with a warranty for around $100.

I'd give up my phone before I'd go without my computer & access (I might have to do that).

"Depression is an odd thing and begins slowly without major symptoms.  Cancer - twice, a mild stroke then copd, mingled with a couple of family members from hell left me with very little to fight with."

I haven't been through even half the shit you've been through, & it's depressing. Just by finding out you're still with us, a little bit better, & currently cancer-free has been uplifting for quite a few here.

It makes my own problems seem like nothing in comparison.

You've given so many new hope. It's like a new dawn on a brand new world is on the horizon. Thank you for putting up the fight to still be here & come back!

"Being human can suck at times"

Getting older can suck at times. Eventually something catches up with you, gets you, sets you back, or kills you. My father got his first heart attack at 55 & it killed him. Fortunately we know more about health & medicine these days. Still, no male in my family ever survived past 65, so with my sudden change in health after being so fit & healthy all my life, it makes me wonder what's next or if I'll be even around much longer. I've been told that a flu or even very bad cold could kill me now.

Still, I hope for the best & keep trying to survive, which is all anybody can do. And we can all hope for more AFFORDABLE medical breakthroughs. Meds, treatments, & doctors for COPD or other stuff are useless to me if I can't afford them or the insurance.

The more you give,

the more I can give back.
