Instagram ranked worst for mental health
« Reply #2 on: August 27, 2017, 04:47:01 PM »
Instagram & snapchat are rated the worst social media for mental health -- which are also the most popular social medias among young people. The internet was a lot more fun & informative before it was overrun by people using touchscreen, app/icon powered devices. Nobody can or wants to say how they're feeling, they've been trained to have to click on a smiley or sad face to express their emotions or thoughts, rather than discuss them.

Their pictures are faked, doctored, or the best out of 1,000 of them. And everybody feels like they've just won a big prize for posting a cool line, picture, or video clip.

They all blindly share/distribute fake news & mislealing ads as the truth without taking 10 seconds to google the information to find out if it's real. Their understanding of the country's history or of civilization is based upon what they've been told it was over the past few weeks. The fast talking used car salesmen & con-men are the new winners & heroes.

I took a "science" quiz circulating of Facebook last week. It claimed you were a "University Genius" if you got just 75% them correct. The quiz was all about very basic science stuff we learned about in school in the third or fourth grade. So these dumb little shyts don't even know their a moron, & come away thinking they're really smart.

The real shocking thing though was, the huge amount of people that got half or less right on these basic kid's school questions. They don't they they're stupid, just that they aren't a college genius.

The was a time, no matter what you're IQ was, you tried your best, so your talents shined. Now the dumb & some smart alike don't even bother trying. If there's not an app for that, a cool slogan, or it's not a cool game it's not worth the bother of may not even get their attention.

You will never learn to swim, ride a bicycle, or learn to drive if you don't try.

I'm getting damn tired of people dropping their jaws & calling me a genius just because I installed a different browser on their machine, or found a brand new good battery for their device for $5 when their "app" & "store" said they want $75-$130 for it. Come on people, anybody online knew how to do that crap in 2005... even 8 year old kids.

Article:
Instagram is the most detrimental social media platform to young people's mental health, according to new research out of the U.K.

Researchers from the Royal Society for Public Health in conjunction with the Young Health Movement published the report entitled #StatusOfMind, which looks at the positive and negative effects of social media on young people's health and well-being.

Snapchat ranked the second worst for mental health of the sites reviewed in the report, followed by Facebook. On the plus side, YouTube topped the list as the most positive, with Twitter coming in after it.

The researchers surveyed almost 1,500 teens and young people aged 14 to 24 from across the U.K. to score how each of the social media platforms they use impacts 14 specific factors related to their health and well-being.

These included emotional support, depression, body image, loneliness, sleep, self-expression, self-identity, community building, and bullying, among others.

Based on the ratings participants gave each social media platform, the five most popular were given a net average score to establish the following ranking:

"Social media has been described as more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol, and is now so entrenched in the lives of young people that it is no longer possible to ignore it when talking about young people's mental health issues," Shirley Cramer, the chief executive of the Royal Society for Public Health, said in a statement.

Cramer notes that both Instagram and Snapchat "are very image-focused and it appears they may be driving feelings of inadequacy and anxiety in young people."
