Hi samantha1, I am 73 now with terrible Arthritis and that complicates things more than old age. Sometimes the hands don't co-operate and the feet hurt so bad it is hard to walk which is something I need to do to keep the joints working good. I have found a few over the counter things that help but the Arthritis drugs I take also have side effects and one is high blood pressure so I need to keep that in check. I am lucky to have a team of doctors here that keep me going and are mostly paid by Ontario's health plan but I do need to pay out of pocket for some things. The problems faced now are rising costs of food, and utilities like heat & electricity as well as TV, phone etc. I used to laugh when people said you need a million dollars to retire but now it seems to be true with all the rising costs. Thanksgiving in Canada was last Monday Oct. 10 and Thanksgiving in the U.S. is on November 24, I believe. As you can see from Betty's map we are pretty close and we would often party in Buffalo back in the 70's 80's and 90's and shop there often when the dollar was favorable to us.I remember in the late 60's we could get $1.35 U.S. for every Canadian dollar spent over there and prices and varieties of things were so much greater. In Niagara N.Y. we could get a steak dinner with salad and a bun for about $2 and beer for $1 if my memory is correct and the drinking age in the U.S. was lower than Canada being 21 to only 19 in the U.S. We would go over the border almost weekly back then but after 9/11 and then Covid it got very complicated. Stay well samanth1 and Betty, got to try to clean up some leaves and crab apples today.
