Thanks. I guess I missed a few of their episodes. I don't usually follow the channel because a friend re-posts them on Facebook. But she hasn't posted any in a while. Her very old Mac is giving problems with FB. I told her to just try a different browser, but she's a stubborn purist who thinks apple is god, & everything on her computer must only be done apple's way by apple. But her mac is too ancient even by my standards.
She don't even want to drop it off for me too look at it either. She fears whatever I do to it will corrupt the apple soul in it. Or worse, she thinks I might put windows or Linux on it. She's so brainwashed by them, she thinks everything that doesn't come from apple is an evil Russian or Chinese virus. But her computer is so old, it's no longer supported by apple. Because I poke fun at her Apple god, she thinks I'm some kind of computer sinner who's not qualified to work on her antique computer.
Her machine may have cost over $1,000 over a decade ago, but she's now retired & poor, so can't afford a newer mac. That old mac sells used in perfect order for only $50. It's only a single core 1.3ghz machine with a 30gb 4200rpm PATA/IDE drive in it. So it was all old slow tech even in 2005. Meanwhile my old Acer windows machine from the same era cost only $299-$399 new. Used, they're still selling for $100-$150.
She won't touch windows even though her GF/partner has a fair windows laptop that I fully restored & tweaked for her last year. Her GF loves it, but the apple fan won't touch it. If she'd go to windows, I'd give her one of my old ones, or even an old 2005 ibook running modern Linux real cheap. There was no reason to keep OS X on it. The only version of OS X that would run on it is no longer supported. You can't even install a new browser on an older OS X.
I think she has hopes I'll find a newer used mac for her cheap someday. But any of the decent recent used models are way out of her's & my price range. For what's inside them, they're way over priced. But when they get old, they get obsolete faster than other computers. Then they go dirt cheap because they're almost useless & incompatible with anything.
