It was so funny but right after I joined a cross dressing group I became very fashion conscious as most do, desperate to pass or come as close as possible, before coming to the conclusion that was never going to happen.  Once that reality set in I began to enjoy it more and that was thanks to a drag queen who became a very dear friend.  Second thing to happen was driving by a country western wear store and seeing this pink dress with pink petticoats in the window.  Damn near hit a parked car.  The woman and I became very dear friends.  I would joke with other cross dressers when they asked why "country"?  I'd tell them so I could hide the petticoats.  But when you think about it country western was as close as you could get to "little girl" as was legal, right down to the Mary Jane's.  I did wear white boots (see my avatar) and other colored strapped shoes but I so loved those Mary Jane's.  Then there were diapers.  With a full dress and petticoats you could wear just about anything under them...  Oh, God, those were the days.

JEEZ that takes me back! those "gangsta" shoes were known as "brothel creepers" back in the late 1950s They were the prefered footwear of the "teddy boy" (google it) as a 6 or 7yo I remember one of my uncles wearing them. Legend has it that they were the original BLUE SUEDE SHOES that Elvis sang about

Oh marybethsanford I love your pink dress and like you if I had seen it in a window it would have caused me to stop short. I remember seeing the styles on TV but never found a shop near enough for me to explore. I do remember a woman working for me a few years back that was into the Square Dance craze and would attend dances at least once a week. She even asked me to be her partner once but I could not do it or tell her I wanted to wear the dresses. I was her boss and did not want to get into that situation where I could be compromised and she was a hand full most days. I ended up having her transferred to another dept. for my sanity and to give her a second chance to change her ways or be fired. I think my one regret after all the girls clothes I have purchased over the years is that I never got a wonderful petticoat like the pink one in the posted photo.

This is an interesting thread. I suppose my "turn-offs" have always been foundation garments (like the ones I'd see in my grandmother's room) and garter belts. Sometimes I think the only people wearing garter belts today are crossdressers and hockey players. I never wore them when I was dressed as a girl in my childhood (always anklets), but I did in my hockey playing days).

I think my favorite fashion item as a boy was the "see-through" dress of the 1950s. I had one in yellow similar to the one shown in the photo which I wore around the age of 10-11.

Thank you! As a boy my mother's friends were always calling me "pretty" or "delicate." Some of this must have carried over into my later years as last year I received a left-handed compliment from a teenage checkout girl. As she totaled up my purchases, she looked me over and finally remarked, "I bet when you were younger you were really HOT!"

My only responses was, "Were?"

And speaking of fashion prejudices, apparently this boy did not approve of the dress Auntie chose for him. (There's no accounting for taste--it looks good to me.)

OMG, if I keep complementing, will you keep posting these pictures? I really come twice a day to check posts (I'm retired and have the time). I get kinda excited when I see Spankypants has posted, and it is the first post I open. Thank you!

A cute dress for indoor play, but it appears he'd rather be playing baseball.
