New Rosanne revival
« on: August 09, 2017, 11:58:57 AM »
They are doing a revival of the Rosanne show on ABC.
When Roseanne returns to the air next year, there will be a new character bending gender norms. Showbiz411.com reports that the revival will include a ‘gender creative’ character.
A source told the outlet that the character will be Mark, the 9-year-old son of Darlene and David, played by Sara Gilbert and Johnny Galecki.

Talk has been going on about this since spring. Only 8 episodes are scheduled to air sometime in 2018.

According to a casting notice put out by the producers, the show is looking to cast a character named Mark, who is the 9-year-old son of Darlene and David. Mark will be a "gender creative" character.

The casting notice describes the character as "sensitive" and "effeminate." Mark "displays qualities of both male and female young child traits."

As of Aug 1st, nobody has been signed on to play the role yet.

According to lgbtqnation.com Rosanne is a right-winger who voted for Trump. That's gonna be a thorn in the side among people who have alternate lifestyles or have friends who are. With a lesbian character, & an effeminate boy character, it probably won't be liked by the right-wing Trump supporters either.

Tweeted by Rosanna Bar:
— Roseanne Barr ("at" therealroseanne) March 20, 2017

“I like Trump because he financed his own [campaign],” Barr said. “That’s the only way he could’ve gotten that nomination. Because nobody wants a president who isn’t from Yale and Harvard and in the club. ‘Cause it’s all about distribution. When you’re in the club, you’ve got people that you sell to. That’s how money changes hands, that’s how business works. If you’ve got friends there, they scratch your back and blah, blah.”

So this rivial series already smells like a disaster. They'll have to be very creative & talented to make this work. The only talent I see is Johnny Galecki, John Goodman, & Sara Gilbert.

For a few years the original show themed on the lives of a White Trash family was popular. But the last few years it got quite borning. It was a sitcom, that stopped being funny. So it tried to get serious to get back ratings, & that also failed.

One of our local channels runs the original show daily (not on cable, low powered TV antenna channel). Except for the first couple years or the series, it was no big deal.

There's only so many white trash jokes you can throw out there, without it becoming stale & tired after a while.

I save a lot of old TV series. Rosanne was one I didn't. I liked it when it was new. But after a couple years, I rarely got around to tuning in anymore.

Hey Betty,
I'm the same, save quite a few sitcoms, serials etc. Most seem to go downhill after 2 or 3 seasons. I've taken to just saving the 1st and last episodes of the latter seasons of shows I don't particularly enjoy.

Mainly out of curiosity value to see the cast "growing up". Roseanne was one in that category. Usually try to get the Halloween episodes also as there inevitably are sissy dresses in them somewhere.

This will be an odd show. Rosanne herself is a strict conservative, devoted Trump fan, & the character she plays on the show is too.

I don't know whether to boycott it or watch it like a train wreck. So far this reads like it's going to be a disaster, but who knows? Maybe she has some good writers. ABC has only had a few successful sitcoms lately.

It's no big gamble for ABC anyway. Networks rarely commit to full season contracts for new shows anymore. Most networks won't even consider a half-season contract until after a few episodes have aired & did well in ratings. So I'm sure they can cancel after just a couple episodes if it doesn't work, or apply pressure to change it.

Hi,

Here's a group picture of the Roseanne cast with the boy playing the grandson wearing the cute dress he was wearing in the earlier post on the show's revival.

Hey thanks for that one Andy, I have not had a chance to see the new show yet. Did not know about the grandson either.

It hasn't aired yet. They keep moving the airing date up later & later. Right now the first show of the revival is scheduled for March 27. Only 8 episodes are planned.

I don't watch too much TV so I have not seen the schedule. The shows I do watch are the British Mysteries and comedy's when they are on or I will go to youtube videos of the shows. My cousin mentioned a new Brit Box he got for available British TV shows but I am not paying their rates for that. He has a whole lot more money than I and keeps his Yacht at the Toronto Yacht Club.

I don't even get cable TV. But with my cheap indoor antenna, I get a little over 40 channels on a good day & over 30 channels on a bad day. On a good day I can even get channel 5 & 19 from Toronto & a couple French Canadian stations. Lots of commercial, infomercial, & church stations that I had to block, so only about 2/3 of the channels I get, I actually watch.

Back when I had cable or Directv & over 200 channels, there were only 18 I ever actually watched, & some of those were local, network, or Canadian channels that I get with the antenna anyway. So I'm getting more channels that I actually watch now, than I did with cable & satellite.

The only bad about no cable, is I have to know a show or film exists to want to watch it. I don't get to hear about whats on cable or stream services much. So unless someone mentions it, I won't know it exists.

99% of every movie, TV show or video ever made is available free somewhere anyway, if you're handy, tricky, & careful. But believe me, Facebook & twitter is more dangerous than most places you can watch or download video. Extra care should be taken if the source of the media is coming from eastern Europe, the middle east, or Asia. But I consider Facebook, twitter, social media apps, phone apps, & windows 10 apps more dangerous & risky than the rest of the internet & usenet combined.

Betty's actually got it's start on the Usenet in 1981. It started as just a small newsgroup on newsgroup servers in Buffalo, Toronto, Rochester, & NYC. The usenet is still a great source for free movies, TV, video, & music, but the procedure to get them, is a bit complicated.

Getting British programming & TV is incredibly easy though. They stream most of their stuff as well as broadcast it. So all you have to do is fool their servers into thinking you're in the UK. Easy peasy! I can make their servers think I'm the Queen of England if I wanted to.

I take requests. Is there any particular show or film you're looking for? I could probably find it unless it's very rare or out of print. And if I never heard of it or saw it before, I might want to watch it too.
