Thank you so much. Every little bit helps. I haven't been begging for donations as much as I used to, because so many people hate it.
I guess people don't like to hear about people being poor... even when they're using that poor person's stuff, & facilities online on their $2,000 mac or $400 phone in their warm & cozy $90,000 home.
Donations have actually got worse & slowed down a lot. But I am working a little more, so am paying more of our servers cost & expenses out of my own pocket again.
I've also cut back on things at Betty's to save costs a little. For most of you regulars & members, you wouldn't notice much difference, everything still works pretty much the same. But we are blocking a significantly larger amount of the world from accessing Betty's.
Entire ISPs known to host spammers, scammers, & hackers are banned. 3 attack attempts from those banned ISPs now get them firewalled from all our servers. They get a "no access" error message, or a message that we no longer exist. Search engines popular in Russia, India, & China are now blocked. They can't find us with them.
But you can still find us with Google. Bing & Yahoo also now support searches for us. They didn't in the past, or linked to an old archived page from the 1990s.
Most proxies, VPNs, & TOR servers are now blocked from Betties, because they are also used by most hackers, scammers, & spammers. So most people will have to use their real ISP to get here rather than hide behind another.
Due to increased bad activity, we now block almost half of all Russian, eastern European, Chinese, & S.E. Asian ISPs. A lot of ISPs from India are also blocked. Many middle-eastern ISPs are blocked. Almost all VPN services & proxies from the USA are blocked. We also change our address & servers more often to shake the bad guys & bots off our trail for a while.
So we'll get about a million less hits in 2018 than in 2017. But a million less of mostly pointless, or suspicious visitors per year translates into a bit of savings in server costs.
Although we'll only get 3.5 million hits for 2018, we did make a milestone last month, but nobody seemed to notice.
We hit 50 million hits on our hit counter last month.
Some people's ad-blockers block our hit counter. That's odd, because Stat Counter (our counter) is not an ad, & is not malicious. And it still see & counts you even if you visually block the counter.
PLEASE shut off your ad blockers or make an exception for Betty's on them. It may be blocking important images, links, or information you need to use our sites properly.
