I remember this thread which started about 6 months ago and since I had TURP (Trans Urethral Resection of the Prostate) and bladder stone surgery 2 months ago and now I'm one of you to at least some extent. I got tired of doing daily laundry of up to 3 pairs of jeans and the other clothing.

I didn't want to start using pads. etc. but I listened to my cousin the retired nurse who for several years was the head nurse of the geriatric floor of a hospital located in central NY state. She told me to use pads or whatever was needed for me to get out of the house for more than an hour or 2 at a time.

I listened to her and I'm using mail guard pads daily and go through 2 a day. I'm still running to the bathroom often but my pants are staying dryer.

I also picked up and am trying both pullups and taped diapers (not at the same time). When I go to bed it will be my first time in a diaper since the early 1950s. 3 area pharmacy chains and Walmart all seem to have their own (probably identical) private brand lines and I'm starting with them.

I have seen several of you here mention Salk brand plastic pants in a positive light, and I just ordered a couple (both pull on and with snaps).

I don't know if I will be a diaper lover, but I've been getting up to go to the bathroom at least 4 times a night, so I think it's worth a try.

Hi dolly bo peep, I know what it is like to get up 4 or 5 times a night and then be so tired the next day. It sure was hard to get back to sleep and then have to get up again a short time later. My Urologist suggested a pill to help but admitted it did not always work and offers complications with all the other drugs I am on so I chose the diaper route so I could get some sleep at night. I tried the pull up types but they leak at the sides because I wet so much. Next was the Maximum Protection tape on diapers by Tena and I found these to be the best so far but they are soaked in the morning and do also leak a bit so on top of them I wear a thick flannel pull pant by Kins in B.C. Canada then cover this with plastic pants. This set up allows me to fall asleep and stay asleep all night but I am always soaking wet in the morning. I have tried limiting fluids as suggested but that does not work so I just go with the Flow LOL. I have tried some store brand products but prefer the Tena brand the best. A local company sells adult diaper products for adult babies with all the accessories and they show on video how much fluid they hold ( lots ) but their prices are quite high so I have not tried them yet. The company is Rearz and of course their products come in cute baby prints and colours. I have purchased some cloth diapers and plastic pants from them and the prices are reasonable and shipping is fast. They also try to find the cheapest method of shipping to you.

Angela, thank you for your information. My Salk Sani-pants arrived today and I ran them through the washer and drier, with all settings on gentlest.

I did wear diapers at night a couple of times. The first did result in a leak. The second night I wore a diaper, got up once and changed into a clean one which lasted the rest of the night, and had no leaks with either one. I also went out once so far with a diaper under a new pair of loose fit jeans and made it home with no leaks.

I plan on using my store brand products. I need more practice to get more comfortable with the tape tabs so I plan to keep at it. I have a camera club meeting tonight but after I get back, I will probably go to bed in a layer of diaper, pullup, and one of my new Sani-pants preventing leaks (I hope).

Since I last posted on Wednesday, I have spent every night in diapers, and fortunately had no leaks.

I did one night with pullups layered over a tape tab diaper and the SaniPants over them. The diaper lasted a bit over half the night and the pullup and Sani Pants were still dry. I took all of them off, disposed of the diaper, cleaned up with wipes, then put the pullups back on under the plastic pants and went back to bed.

The last 2 nights it was a diaper change about halfway through the night. I'm getting familiar enough so the change takes only several minutes and I'm falling back asleep fairly quickly.

The male guard pads seem to work during the day, but I'm going to try pullups during the day now and then when I venture out and look at some other brands to try when my current supply starts running low, including overnight ones.

Hi dolly bo peep, your nights are a bit like mine in that we wear the same thing almost and change through the night at least once. I have been hooked on plastic pants since I was a kid and in my early 20's I discovered Salk Sani Pants on a trip to Boston. I found them in a Pharmacy in Rockport actually and bought the only pair they had. At the time they were soft white plastic in the snap on version and for the rest of my trip it was into any pharmacy I could find in the U.S. to get more. I had never seen them in Canada but I was talking to a pharmacist friend of mine who said if I new the model number and where they were located he could order them. Did not take me long to get him the information and he got me 8 pairs. I sold two pairs to a friend who worked with me and knew we shared a secret. Later on I discovered they were no longer making them in the plastic version but the coated nylon style and I did not like them as much so I never got any more. I figure if I am wearing two types of adult diapers and pull ups it may be cheaper to just buy the adult baby diapers from Rearz as they are cute and very thirsty holding almost an entire nights fluid I believe.

Hi Angela, Last night I had a leak through the side halfway through the night and the Sani-pants didn't contain it. The leak was on one side at waist level. I had to change the sheets. I like the Sani-pants, have 2 pairs pullup, 2 pairs snap and like them equally well so far. Twice I have thought I felt sweat within the Sani-pants, so I will try sleeping under one less layer of covers.

The next diapers and pullups I buy will probably be overnight absorbency from an online and a couple of name brands like Tena, Tranquility, and maybe Rearz.

Tomorrow afternoon I have to take the car in to the dealer for inspection and oil change. I might wear pullups under loose fit jeans. I usually bring my tablet and headphones in a tote bag, so I can have an extra pullup, a few wipes, and disposal bag if I need to change in the restroom stall.

Yesterday afternoon I went to the car dealer and had my car inspected. I did wear pullups and had an extra, but didn't need the extra one. I visited the restroom once and pulled down my pullups in the stall to do #1. I went home after the car was done and stayed in my pullups while I did some things outside the house (replaced the doorbell button on my house side entrance. Last night I had to get up twice for diaper changes, but there were no leaks. I plan on using up the things I already have, but have ordered some heavier duty Tranquility and Tena brand things for trying at night and for longer wear during the day.

Hey dolly bo peep, I prefer Tena and do like Tranquility but can't find them in the shops around here so I may order online also. Whenever I am in the garden I wear the pull up style Tena under some heavy duty Suprima snap on pants I bought years ago. The company I bought them from is in Quebec, Canada but I get mixed reviews as to whether they are still in business o I will try to contact the guy I dealt with before. I like them a lot but they are expensive. I need to get my SUV serviced soon and winter tires installed at the same time so it may be a long service call. If I stay I will wear some pull ups but I may also walk to the shops nearby so I will needs some protection. Sometimes when I feel the urge to go I need a bathroom right away or I will leak. Urge incontinence I guess but it does not always happen. Saw an old work mate yesterday and he was saying how things start to annoy us regarding health issues. We have multiple little things start to go wrong. Sometimes I forget there are others out there feeling the same as me, even older co-workers. Well at least those who have not passed on anyway. Speaking of doorbells you just reminded me I need to change mine as the light has gone out on the button.

Hi Angela, yesterday I stayed in diapers the entire day for the first time. I went out of the house for errands twice. I changed a few times, all at home and took care of #2 between diaper changes. I didn't have any leaks, but I didn't feel totally dry during both of my outings. The store brand didn't seem to wick the moisture far from the source. I expect better performance from the name brand products that should arrive tomorrow.

I did look online at the Kins and Rearz products and might buy from them in the future.

When I bought the replacement door bell button it was marked as lighted but I didn't care about that. I looked at it tonight and it does have a light.
