Betty's turns 26 years old with 55 million hits since 2004
« on: April 01, 2020, 06:54:11 PM »
We moved from the Usenet (newsgroups) to the internet in spring 1994. Opening our first internet forum to the pubic on the first day of spring (deliberately planned on the spring deadline/opening). A few weeks later, overwhelmed with long stories, on a small free server, I made our stories section on a separate site to spread the load & traffic out.

So Betty's on the internet in a BBS/forum form, just turned 26 years old this spring.

Our hit counter, counting since September 2004, just hit 55 million hits around the same time. Probably 3/4 of those hits are just from our story site... a very busy place.

Betty, I missed sending best wishes because after your last move I was totally locked out I tried everything I knew to find your site but there was always something that got in the way. I finally gave up and because of several issues in life, the Virus included, I did not try any longer. I am fine so far and sure hope you are too as well as many old friends who post here. This is a strange time for us all. I finally was able to get back here tonight and see that andyg is still in fine form and to say I missed his posts and many others is an understatement but anyway I hope I don't lose my way again.

Hi Angela,

I'm very happy to see you found your way back to the site. With your long absence I was concerned that your health issues had worsened. I'm glad it was just the web that got in your way.

Stay safe and be well.

Andy G.

Hi andyg, I missed coming here so much I was going into withdrawl symptoms. My health is not bad but of course many cancelled doctors appointments since this all started and we had a death in the family that is hard to deal with any time but during Lock down it is very challenging. Just trying to get the arrangements made and carried out and trying to settle estate matters with so many closures is a nightmare and still not over yet. I am glad to see that you and Betty are still OK and others also who visit here often. I was very worried about Betty with her health issues and this nasty virus but at least being alone in your apartment is a good thing right now. I did wonder how you were coping not being able to visit the Art you love so much but I see you have a temporary solution for that and I bet you are still walking each day. I venture out about once a week or two for groceries and Meds which they have limited for the time being to protect supply. At one time I could get more than one or two months supply of a prescription but now it is limited to one month or less for drugs with limited supplies due to shutdowns. Anyway I am thankful I am still quite healthy and not caught this dreaded virus. I have some family members who work at hospitals and they say it is horrendous to watch and know you are doing all you can but they may soon die without family at their sides.
Anyway I am glad I was able to get back to Betty's and join you all again.

Hi Angela,

Being retired my routine hasn't really changed aside from not being able to visit the City every week for the art. I still take my 3 mile walk and two 55 minute rides on my stationary bicycle daily. Shopping was an adventure for a while but it's calmed down of late. I went back into the City last week for the first time in 2 1/2 months to see my dentist and it was a little odd. I caught the bus in at 8:50AM which used to be referred to as the height of the rush hour and I don't think there were a dozen people on the bus. I didn't want to deal with subways so I walked up her office and then walked back to the Port Authority. No crowds of any kind on the streets or in the Port Authority but more people than on my previous visit when it really was a ghost town. The one bonus was the coffee wagons have reappeared and I was able to get the big round cinnamon bun I enjoy so much. Having been obese in my early life, I have a schizophrenic relationship with baked goods. I came home and had the bun with my coffee and had my usually split response. Upon finishing I thought to myself, I shouldn't have had that while also thinking to myself, gee, another one would have been nice.

Glad you are back and my condolences on the death in your family.

Andy G.

Thanks andyg for your condolences, we just managed to get a small service done before the lockdown happened and it was pretty crowded. we also had cremation done but cemetery's are closed so no interment yet or headstone etc. Like you I have a weakness for baked goods and tried home baking a little but I found a small bakery nearby that makes pretty good Danish and pies and bread so I have been three times in the last month or so. I know I should not indulge as much but I am lucky I don't put on weight too easily. I do miss going to coffee shops sometimes for breakfast and a chat with the girls I know, but they are opening slowly near me. That was my morning walk, uphill to the coffee shop and then roll back down again to my house. On my previous drives up north to the lake, I know where every good coffee shop is and ones with the cleanest bathrooms also.

the more I can give back.
