Port Colborne

Hey Betty, I was in Port Colborne yesterday at their Canal Days festival. They had two Tall ships docked next to a Buffalo Fire Dept. fireboat from 1900. It was in pretty good shape for the years on it.

I'm sure some restoration was done, but fresh water in lakes, rivers, & canals are a lot less corrosive or damaging than the dirty, rocky, sandy salt they dump on our streets in winter that destroys our vehicles.

Yes there would have been some restoration and it was showing it's age in some places with rust and corrosion painted over but it was an impressive boat and with four massive hose nozzles on the upper decks and smaller ones on the sides, it may have been good at it's job also. Was nobody on board to ask if it was based in the Buffalo Harbour but I would guess it is. There were some impressive new boats tied up along the wall of the canal out of the way of the passing Great Lakes tankers and freighters that went by. The families on board were tanned and tanked as well and one father slipped overboard holding his baby in his arms. Pretty stupid to be that close to the edge of the back deck holding a new baby. They came to the surface pretty quick as several people jumped in to help. Both were OK and he went right back to the same spot again holding the baby while his wife finished her cocktail. You can't cure stupid.
