The kitties last week.
These days, just like my previous pair of cats, the boy seems to hang around me or the bed the most, while his sister likes some dark or hidden spot to nap or hang out more, like under the bed, in the dirty laundry bin or a box. She doesn't hide all the time though. She isn't being harassed or bothered by her brother or me, so has no reason to hide. Indeed, she enjoys cuddling & playing with the other cat & me. But some cats just enjoy a little more alone time. It also is a natural state for them when they're not hunting, to rest or sleep in a hidden place in the chance they'll catch some passing prey by surprise.
They also naturally will seek out dark or shaded areas close to the ground to keep cool & not cuddle much on hot days. We've had many somewhat hot but extremely steamy humid days in a row here. Although I have a window AC unit, I can't really afford to use it constantly, or on high much. So I only run it just enough to keep my breathing bearable rather than as cool & dry as I should have it for COPD.
But the girl did stay cuddly most of a day last week for a change, & napped on the bed a while too. Hopefully she'll be more sociable again when the weather cools down some. She's a little chubby & has longer fur, while her brother is thin with very short hair, so her brother can take the heat better than her. But neither like heat much. On the hottest days they either gather around the AC or are laying in the cool bathroom sink & tub.
Even in the winter they don't seem to care how cold I let the place get, except at night while I'm warm under the blankets, I may let the place get down to the 40s F overnight. Then they curl up extra close to me to sleep overnight. They're used to it being cooler because I got them after I had COPD at 6 weeks old, so they always has some AC, & I keep the heat turned down low to save money in the winter.
They, like most cats get more attached to me, & cuddle me with the more playtime I have with them. A cat will love you more if you show them a good time rather than how much you bribe them with food, brushing, back scratching, or petting. Just don't let playtime get to rough or rowdy, or they'll just enjoy rough times that get too rough. If things get too rough, just stop playing until they calm down - they will figure out you won't play when it gets rough with nails or biting. Use toys, & objects for playtime, not your hands or feet, or they'll learn your hands & feet are fun bite & scratch toys.
Anywho, because it was so rare to have the girl cuddle up & sleep on the bed the past week, she got the most pictures taken.
