Some Fashion Prejudices
« on: May 05, 2017, 02:45:17 AM »
Two items of feminine apparel I dislike (even on women) are high heeled shoes [a real nuisance to walk in; I don't care what they "do for" your legs], and nylons / stockings / pantyhose [too fragile and subject to runs].
BUT...if you must wear high heeled shoes, please wear them with nylons / stockings / pantyhose.
Just please, please, PLEASE don't wear them with socks.

Unless they're pretty frilly ruffled sissy socks. They go well with high heels with pretty bows.

Sorry, but that's exactly what I find least attractive.  But that's just my personal preference/prejudice.  As they say, "Your mileage may vary."

I guess what I find unattractive is the combination of childish socks with adult high heels.  It creeps me out because it makes me think of adults who are "overly fond" of children.  Again, just my personal view.  For those of you who like the combination, more power to you.

I like frilly stuff, too, including "sissy style" anklets with lace around the cuffs, but -- and this is just my personal opinion / prejudice -- frilly socks go better with classic Mary Jane shoes, nylons / pantyhose go better with high heels.

In 1972 "glam rock" was in fashion and I was first exposed to platform boots. I had a pair handmade by this old italian cobbler and figured I looked really cool!
the leather was oxblood red with snakeskin trim, triple half-inch platforms (snakeskin-oxblood-snakeskin) so you got an inch&half platform with a 4&1/2inch heel
They set off my afghan coat & loon pants perfectly but god were they uncomfortable!
they were so well made they felt strange if I wore socks of a different thickness than the pair I was wearing when being measured for them.
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b&tbm=isch&q=platform+boots&chips=q:platform+boots,g_1:vintage:_mnONKEqzro%3D,g_1:mens:Amx2M3qHmj4%3D&usg=AI4_-kSUVQBqNk_o4OZn9V5LJXkf4UHNIA&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjKpe_x39ThAhUSKBoKHWtyAjYQ4lYILSgC&biw=1024&bih=635&dpr=1#imgrc=_
consequently I no longer wear heels of any description and I'm gonna stick to Mary Janes!

Platform shoes are another nuisance. Don't care for them, never have.  Oddly, there is a "gangsta" style sort-of platform shoe that my son likes but you'd never catch me wearing...see

I'm definitely down the middle with this.  Never really like heels because I was always hooked on the little girl look but then I discovered the short heeled Mary Jane's and fell in love with those when they hit in the 90's.  Saw a girl with lacy socks and short heavy heeled Mary Jane's followed her like a starving puppy asking her where she got them.  I wore those with my country western dresses when I went to meetings.  Lacy socks of course as Betty noted.... love the frilly.

Hugs
Mary Beth

Hey marybethhsanford, I love the pic and bought the same ones and I wore them with lace trimmed sock as well. I still have them and the socks as I did not wear them often and only out in public once or twice. My favourite are my Mary Jane's too.
