Well Betty, that totally shocked me as I thought Money ruled the TV/ Motion Picture Industry. As one of the highest rated shows recently I figured it was at least good for another season. I watched from the start and liked most of what I saw. Young Ames McNamara was certainly good at playing his role so it is a shame it was cut short. I have in the past thought Roseanne was a strange bird so it is no surprise she has done something like this.

It was approved for another season about a month ago, before they cancelled it. I wonder if any contracts for the next season were signed yet.

I knew she'd find some way of screwing it up. If ABC was smart, they'd immediately start production of a spinoff of the series without Roseanne. Maybe calling it, The Conners or something.

There would be plenty of ways the writers can just write her out of the show. Maybe she had to move to a warmer or drier climate for health reasons, a divorce, inherited an old uncle's home far away etc. They even killed off Dan at the end of the original series.

Rosanne had less influence in the new series, than the old one. There are other great characters & actors that can evolve & carry the show. There may be some copyright or trademark obstacles to overcome, like Roseanne actually invented the character "Rosanne" for the show, so may claim rights to any reference to the character.

There are plenty of ways around that by simply referring to her in future episodes as the wife, mom, or sister, rather than use her name. Or ABC can buy out any rights to the character. However because Rosanne is a common name, I don't think holding rights to the character or it's name would hold much ground in court, or be worth much to buy out the rights to.

Then there's also "fair use" laws. As long as the show is no longer called Roseanne, she would have a hard time claiming trademark issues with the show just by referring to the name in the dialog & script.

Also there are 2 or 3 episodes left in this season. Were they already recorded & ready? Will they run them if they are?

Wow. That was fast. I just noticed ABC purged any evidence that Roseanne ever existed from their websites. You can't even see or play the current episodes there anymore. I wanted to see if they would run at least 1 more episode, because it probably was already recorded. There's no links or reference to the show at all there anymore.

Dang, even Canadian TV & CTV cancelled their streaming service of the show.

I download a lot of my TV shows, British series, & movies from Canadian TV channel streams. You're not supposed to be able to download & save a stream, but there's always a way. I'll guess close to half of everything in our private viewing area originally came from Canadian TV channel streams.

I have episode 9. I guess that will be the last one. I'll post it in our private viewing area later.

I guess they want to totally distance themselves from any memory of her after her Tweets. She totally screwed this up for a long time. She still had her caustic wit on the show but I felt she was trying real hard to get back in character and even Dan was pushing it. He even admitted on a talk show that he was drunk filming the first episode. Bringing it back as the Connors would be a good idea and due to her health problems on the show, killing her off would be easy. An overdose of her pain meds as that was one story line already, hoarding pills all over the house.

Now that it's cancelled, it suddenly becomes a highly collectable TV series, & more valuable to collectors or archivers.

I guess I should try to get clearer versions. Usually for sitcoms & regular TV, high quality HD video isn't a priority for me. Smaller file sizes so I have space to save lots of it, & not take a million years for me to download or upload it is more important to me for stuff like that.

ABC has started producing a series called, “The Conners,” a spinoff starring original cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman... without Roseanne. Barr will have no financial or creative involvement in the spinoff.

“The Conners” is slated to debut this fall and take over the 8 p.m. Tuesday time period that “Roseanne” had been slated to occupy until the show was abruptly canceled. Additional cast members and a premiere date will be announced at a later date.

“The Conners” has been given a 10-episode order. It is not known how Barr’s character will be written off the show.

ABC insisted that the comic receive no financial benefit from a spinoff. Because Barr was credited as creator of the Roseanne Conner character around whom the original series was built, she was believed to be entitled to a stake in any spinoff — even one in which that character was not involved. Sources tell Variety that Werner appealed to Barr to step away from the spinoff in support of the crew members who would be put out of work by the cancellation of “Roseanne.”

With the exception of Barr, Goodman, who plays Dan Conner, will press on with the rest of the cast in the spinoff, The Conners (Tuesday, 8 EDT/PDT), which includes Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman.

The Conner family will adjust to the death, confirmed by Goodman in an interview in August, of Roseanne Conner, whose absence will be explained in Tuesday’s premiere.

Goodman says he was immediately on board when Gilbert, who's also an executive producer, approached him about the spinoff. "This might be some kind of closure. I don't know," he says. "But it's nice to have a chance."

Roseanne tweeted, “I AIN’T DEAD BITCHES”.

Barr and her spiritual teacher Rabbi Shmuley Boteach also released a longer statement regarding the on-screen death:

“While we wish the very best for the cast and production crew of ‘The Conners,’ all of whom are deeply dedicated to their craft and were Roseanne’s cherished colleagues, we regret that ABC chose to cancel ‘Roseanne’ by killing off the Roseanne Conner character. That it was done through an opioid overdose lent an unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show,” the statement reads. It went on to slam ABC’s cancellation of “Roseanne,” calling it a result of “fear, hubris, and a refusal to forgive.”

Am I misremembering, but didn't Roseanne write the original show to end with Dan having a massive heart attack and dying?

Yep. She killed off Dan, & Becky's boyfriend... in a prime time sitcom. They got cancelled because it wasn't funny anymore.

She went nuts & married that POS, Tom Arnold which only made her more nuts. Nobody wanted to see her anymore, & everybody hated Tom. Ratings slipped so she tried to turn the show into a drama while still plugging jokes into it.

Of course that failed terribly.

I didn't see most of the episodes of the final season, not even in reruns, because it sucked so bad.
