Pretty Dresses
« on: May 23, 2014, 07:16:41 PM »
Hi,

ballucanb sent me this link to a dress maker  http://www.unikarendesigns.com/category.htm

I googled her and it seems to be a legitimate business. I see that pettipond has featured her.

At first glance it looks like an old out of date site, but she has a Facebook page too, which was updated as of May 21st. So she's still in business.

https://www.facebook.com/unikarendesigns or http://www.facebook.com/unikarendesigns

There's quite a few custom shops & people who do this kind of work. The real question is price, reliability, quality, & delivery times.

Normal or average sized people can find somewhat frilly stuff right off some stores shelves if they shop around a bit. Of course, by normal & average sized, I mean not overweight or close to 6' tall. If you're big or want something extra frilly, custom shops may be your only option.

I see a school girl dress (pictured below) made by her with a huge chest size of 50-52" for sale for about $200 on etsy.com. It's a pretty dress, but if you're under 5'10" & weigh under 160lbs, you can probably get something similar for$ 35-$80 from lolita, cosplay, & costume dress shops (I only have a 32" chest). I've seen dresses like this at other custom dress shops for around $100 to $400, so it pays to shop around a bit before you buy.

Beware of unknown dress makers & distributors. If nobody in our sissy community heard of them before, they may be risky. If they made something pretty we would like, someone would know about them if they were any good.

Yup.. I've bought several Unikaren dresses as well over the years.
The quality is always good.

I could recommend a few sellers from eBay if asked.
I recently received 3 dresses from one vendor and 2 from another. All top notch.

From eBay:
Barbaratam - my seller of choice. Out of China. Will do custom if contacted. I've heard of one error, but it may have been self-inflicted by that buyer.
DreamyCourt - This appears to be the "Baby Dress" arm of Barbaratam (same address on packages). Beware! Dresses are all around 28 inches long! <giggle>
leannes_pretty_dresses - now toward the top of my list. I've had one minor error from her. She fixed it quickly. Recently runs half price sales, frequently.
annemarie! - If you want a quality item from a reliable vendor, this is where to get it.
mizzglamour - I love her dresses, though they tend to be LARGE. May need a tuck or a diaper pin here and there for a fit due to size.
mswntr - seems to be the same seller as mizzglamour. Same comment as above applies.
binkies_n_bows - Baby dress central. Auctions can and often do provide custom sizing.

Unikaren - was covered in a posting above. I haven't seen much from her in ages but she ALWAYS did fine work. I miss her dresses. May be available on etsy or the Unikaren web site.

These are the top sellers I use. Many have come and gone over the years. I apologize if I've left anyone out.

A note of caution.. If you're having a dress custom made rather than buying a pre-made dress, make sure you and the seller communicate clearly. I have heard of an issue where a seller previously added "ease" to the measurements provided by the buyer and then stopped adding it in. (this is a process where the seamstress adds room to your measurements for a less tight fit.) It might be a good rule of thumb to ask your seller if they want skin tight measurements, or if your measurements should be "finished product" with room added for a little weight gain, petticoats, diapers, etc..

Thanks for the information PetticoatOne. I can more than confirm the quality of Two of the vendors in your list.
The dress in my avatar is from Dreamycourt, you will not get better for the money. As you say they are made very short but this shows off the matching rhumba pants that come with most of their styles. Annemarie made me a dress a few years ago and it is stunning. When i get a chance i will post a picture here soon.

Talking of Dreamycourt dresses, I have one I would like to sell. It was bought at the same time as my avatar dress and is in yellow. It has only been tried on once and comes with panties and a bonnet. I have come to the conclusion i am a pink and white person. I am open to offers for it. It will fit anyone up to 48-50" Chest and any size waist because of the style.
If any one is interested please PM me and i can supply Pics if required.Postage in the UK would be only £3.20. USA £8 ($12approx) anywhere else I would have to get a quote. The panties and bonnet have never been worn. To give you an idea the original cost was $59 (approx £39) It is the standard DreamyCourt length so very short! and very sissy.
