Shirley Temple video slideshow
« on: December 28, 2014, 01:18:56 PM »
I've been experimenting with some new audio/video compression techniques & software. So just for kicks I decided to take our Shirley Temple tribute gallery, & turn it into a video slideshow with musical accompaniment. It's 22 minutes long at only 50mb in size. That means you can download & save the HD version of it off of u-tube with even a basic dialup (48kbs?) with downloadhelper in about 18 minutes. The low-res 3gp "mobile" version for phones & small tablets is only 13mb in size... won't look well on a regular monitor or TV, but pretty good on small screens. It can be downloaded on simple dialup in about 5 minutes.

Enjoy the experiment, & don't forget to click "like" at u-tube.

Oops. Somehow the video only loaded the promotional pix from the gallery instead of all of them, so I tried again & made another.

This one has 655 pix in a half hour playing time, but is only 84mb for the full size mp4 version, & 19mb for the small 3gp mobile version (with 30 minutes of music included). For some reason it still didn't load all of the ones I selected, so there's still some missing. There must be some glitch that loses some of them when I pick hundreds for a video slide show.

The previous one was fun anyway, so I'll leave it up for now, but here's the longer version.

Enjoy,

Video link removed. See my post below for the link to the newest version of the video.

Hey Betty,

A really good slide show. It works excellently with the music too. I suppose Animal Crackers would a have violated too many copyrights ...  ;)
Thanks for the production and sharing.

Yep, it's pretty hard to find anything with sound that doesn't violate somebody's rights. Much classical was written long ago, so it's rare to find anyone alive who can legally claim rights to it. One can sell a recording of a performance of the material, but that doesn't give them rights to it. It's like you can make a copy or photo of a 200 year old painting to sell, but it doesn't give you rights to it.

I thought I got all the permissions proper to run a low bandwidth version of a movie there for a limited time only. So when I start running the movie there, I get a notice that I don't have permission for a song in the movie, "I want to break free". Golly, when I get permission to temporarily run a low bandwidth video, I thought that meant with the audio of the video too. For now, I had to give permission for Sony, & some Irish recording company to run ads there, to temporarily be allowed to play the movie with the audio.

Also in the movie, there's a point where just 4-5 seconds of a song (Where the referee shows up on the field), "All the right stuff" plays very faintly in the background. If you're not paying close attention, you probably wouldn't notice any music playing in that spot at all. But their copyright software found it & I had to get permissions for that damn song too by letting them run ads there too! I use ad block so never see the ads anyway.

That's why I stopped running ads here to help support Betty's. Hardly anybody ever clicked on them.  About 95% were using ad blocking software so never see the ads (just a big ugly blank space where the ad would be), & the other 5% almost never notice or click on them. So it was a lot of daily work managing the ads, & clutter on the sites, to just earn $3-$10 a month. In the general population a lot of people don't have a clue about ad-blocking, but because it, & all things computer are discussed here, almost all our users are using some kind of ad blocking software.

Currently working on a astro-pix slideshow. I'm using sounds, & audio effects made at home on my computer to get around paying for rights or having a ton of annoying ads over the video to cover the rights.

Time Warner refused to back down on their wrongful copyright claim to a Mozart piece in the video where the recording was confirmed as Public Domain from the Library of Congress. I even tried switching it with other Public Domain versions of the same piece, & they still claim it's theirs just because it's the same song on a performance they own. Nobody owns rights to Mozart, & just because they own a recording of the song, doesn't mean they automatically own all recordings of the song. Thousands performed & recorded the piece. I know they don't own them all.

Even with proof of the source of the recording being in Public Domain in hand, u-tube still sides with Time Warner rather than little me.

I gave up, removed the video, edited out the song, & posted a new edited version there. I'll bet it gets a dozen copyright claims against it, but except for TW, most of them withdraw their claims in a week to a month if I dispute their claims.

Once again they've made many wrongful copyright claims against the music in video. So once again, I removed the video. This time I didn't edit out more music. I made a new tribute. I dug up some more pictures, so the tribute now has 608 pictures in 30 minutes. This time for audio, & used midi files made at home on the computer long ago. I changed the tempo & key so their fraudulent copyright bots will have a hard time recognizing it. I also avoided Mozart & Bach this time too. It seems these crooks falsely claim to own everything composed by them, even if it was a private, or public domain performance & recording.

Enjoy the new version with twice as many pictures!

Don't forget to click "like" on the video & subscribe to my channel to get more video in the future. This is a great way to show, circulate, & save pix outside our servers & domain.

OK, who's the smart-ass who gave it a thumbs down at u-tube, & voted for elevator music here? I think we have a joker & clown in our midst. We need a thumbs up on the video to out balance the thumbs down. Log into your google account & give it a thumbs up. With hardly any thumbs up I won't be posting more video, or I won't fight the fraudulent copyright claims against them. You'll be watching fraudulent Russian & Chinese copyright scammer's ads over the videos, or they won't play. Then they make money every time someone views or clicks on an ad, or the ads direct you to questionable, malicious, sites, or track you.

The video is not in HD because many of the original pix from the gallery were only 200-500 pixels high, so it would be a total waste to produce a 720p video of them. Don't put your nose so close to a 24" or bigger screen & it looks better. Sitting back a few feet like when watching TV, makes them look pretty good.
