It's so nice to see you back & hear you are well. Every year we loose a few, so whenever somebody is missing for a while we worry about it.
But I'm not the kind of person (or site) to bother somebody every time they haven't been around in a while. So about twice a year I take a "roll call" to see who hasn't logged into their membership in a while, & send them a letter.
Some are no longer with us, some forgot their login or password & don't have a clue of how to get it back, reset it, or how to contact me about it. Others never saved our new address when we moved back here to one of my old domains & servers & have no clue how to do a google search to find us.
Although I haven't intentionally banned a member or legitimate user in years, there are quite a few ISPs & proxies that are used almost exclusively by spammers, hackers, & bots. But there are a few users who don't know they are using an evil or corrupt ISP.
By them getting a letter, it gives them an email to reply to if they had a problem.
These days, now that more people text, email, post, tweet, use Facebook, shop & bank online, & pay their bills online, rather than make phone calls & snail mail, it might be a good idea to have a second cheap or small wifi capable device in case their computer or internet connection goes down.
You can get online with wifi on a basic android tablet that costs $29-$49, or a refurbished recent model decent computer with a warranty for under $100. Even that old XP or windows 98 machine in the closet might be able to run Linux or windows 7 (shut off unessintial windows 7 services & add more RAM to make it go faster) as a second, back-up machine. Many old macs that won't support a newer OS anymore can still be made secure or can run modern Linux.
Many old smart mobile/cell phones can be used at a wifi tablet even if you no longer have a mobile service/provider for them anymore. Many can get online via wifi even with the sims card removed.
I can even navigate Betty's quite well on my very old Samsung with a 4" screen through wifi. I tested it with the sims card removed, & it still performed just like an android tablet. But it probably would be a big pain to write an entire story from it. Mine has a slide out keyboard when I don't want to deal with auto correct or type on a screen, but slid back into place, it's quite small & portable. I got it brand new for only $45 if I made a 1 year commitment to T-mobile, & mailed in a rebate form about 5 years ago.
It also plays my music & movies fine, so it doubles as a pocket media player, & camera... even if the sims card is removed with no connection to any phone company.
